The Texture Edit
A more playful approach to getting dressed
Lately, I’ve been gravitating toward clothes that feel a little more expressive. Not louder, not trendier, just more dimensional. After years of leaning on perfect denim, great tees, and tailored staples, I’m craving pieces where the fabric itself brings the interest. Texture has quietly become the throughline in everything I’m loving right now.
Jacquard, taffeta, brocade, lace. Fabrics that hold shape, catch light, and make even the simplest outfit feel intentional. It’s less about reinventing my style and more about evolving it. Same silhouettes I already love, just executed in materials that feel a bit more special.
One of the pieces that really kicked this off for me was this jacquard mini dress by STAUD. It’s playful without feeling precious, structured but still easy. The kind of dress that does all the work for you. I love it styled simply, flat sandals, minimal jewelry, letting the fabric be the moment.
Along the same lines, the matching jacquard jacket feels like a smart way to bring texture into everyday dressing. It’s a layering piece that instantly elevates whatever is underneath, even if that’s just a tank and jeans. Also beyond perfect for a bride-to-be.
Brocade has also been having a moment in my closet, especially when it’s done in shorter, modern silhouettes. This RENGGLI brocade mini skirt feels bold but wearable, especially paired with something understated on top. The matching brocade jacket is one of those pieces that feels like an investment but makes everything else in your closet feel more interesting.
DES_PHEMMES continues to be a go to when I want something feminine but not overly sweet. Their floral jacquard shorts are a perfect example. Structured, flattering, and unexpectedly chic with a simple tee or crisp button down. I keep coming back to these because they feel styled without trying too hard.
For dresses that feel truly special, the DES_PHEMMES floral jacquard midi dress and the Dries Van Noten jacquard midi dress are standouts. These are the kinds of pieces that don’t need much explanation. You put them on and instantly feel dressed.
I’ve also been loving jacquard in separates, especially when you can mix and match them with simpler staples. The Cara Cara jacquard corset top paired with the matching midi skirt feels romantic but grounded, especially when styled with flats or a low heel.
On the pants front, texture is doing a lot of heavy lifting. The GANNI floral jacquard pants feel playful but still polished, while the RABANNE metallic jacquard knit flares bring in a bit of edge without tipping into costume territory.
Then there’s taffeta, which feels like the more playful side of this edit. I love how it brings volume and movement without feeling fussy. Donni’s taffeta drawstring cargo pant (get the pink!!!) and Chan Luu’s taffeta barrel pant are perfect examples of how something inherently dressy can feel casual when styled right.
The Simone Rocha taffeta peplum top feels sculptural in the best way, dramatic but still wearable, while the DESTREE taffeta cropped flares are an easy way to add texture without committing to a full look. Even the finishing touches feel more interesting lately. Lace skirts, metallic shorts, sculptural bags. Small moments of texture that make an outfit feel layered and intentional.
What I love about leaning into texture is that it doesn’t require a wardrobe overhaul. You can keep your neutrals, your trusted silhouettes, your everyday shoes. Let the fabric do the work. Right now, that little bit of visual interest is making getting dressed feel fun again, and honestly, that’s exactly what I want from fashion at the moment.
